this place is tie-dye for our reviews

My family truly enjoyed staying here. The retro fun feel of hotel was so much fun, the pool and hot tub were fantastic, and the breakfast in the morning put every other hotel breakfast to shame. Seriously, the banana bread oatmeal and the breakfast potatoes were amazing. Also there is a lot of outdoor space to hang out on a beautiful day and the staff were all great.

Fantastic hotel. Excellent food, atmosphere, service , cleanliness, experience.

Such a great place to stay with kids. Pool, arcade, breakfast, everything we needed for multiple nights.

Kind of a cool approach...this is an older hotel and the management kind of rolled with it and re-did it with a retro vibe. So in some sense, the original architecture plays into the new theme. The rooms have great big windows and kinda funky furniture. There's a large indoor plaza with a big pool, hot tub, and poolside rooms. The attached restaurant has a fairly small menu of food with pizza, sandwiches, and pasta. The food here was very good. The service staff was on top of their game here too. Food was kept stocked, dishes cleared quickly, everyone was friendly. Great place to go for large groups, family reunions, etc. But there are rooms away from the pool if you want to avoid the noise.

Great for the whole family! Staff was wonderful and accommodating!! Will be back for a longer stay.

The folks at the Highlander went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable! We were highly impressed! The pool temp was perfect, the hot tub had odd steps/handrail in my opinion but felt so nice on achy bones! There wasn't anything that we didn't love about our stay! We'll be back for sure!

The late 1960's/early1970's theme is a hoot! The available board games, vintage 33 rpm records, and a fabulous large pool and hot tub, along with a huge game room make this a destination motel, on the outskirts of Iowa City. The staff go above and beyond in service. Treat yourself and your family to a visit to the Highlander!

This was quite the surprise, and what a gem! On a cross country road trip, and deciding to hang the night up early instead of pushing through, due to weather, a quick call to Dillon, and we were all set. Showed up 40 minutes later and everything was set up for us. Such a cool place with a great vibe. Everyone is welcoming, and hospitality is at the forefront of what the staff displays! Wish it wasn't just a late night drive through stay. This place has a lot to offer. Shout out to Dillon for making this easy, and throwing the carpet down like we were rock stars!

This place is amazing in every way. The hotel is beautiful and while it's spacious it's also very cozy. It seems every corner has a big comfy sofa or chair inviting me to sit with a book or have a quiet conversation. There's plenty of space for fun, too. The pool area is beyond compare with plenty of room for families. The game room is a great place to be a kid again enjoying skee-ball, pinball and my new favorite, the dance machine. The food and drinks were inventive and of course the staff was incredible. This hotel feels like home away from home.

Gorgeous renovated hotel with fun historical decor. Has lots of great amenities for the whole family and great food. We really appreciated being able to bring our dog

We loved our stay at The Highlander! Overall it was really pleasant and the rooms were neat and clean, but the thing that makes this such a good place to stay are the staff. All of the people are incredibly helpful and generous with their time and advice. I could not recommend the Highlander more!!
